The Dublin Painting & Sketching Club is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of poet and Nobel laureate WB Yeats in its 137th exhibition which opens to the public for two weeks from Monday at the Concourse Gallery, Dún Laoghaire County Hall, Co Dublin.
The Club said among the works on show, by more than 85 members, some 50 were "specially created either in homage to, or reflecting the poetry and other literary works of, WB Yeats" including When You are Old, a painting in oil by Niamh Harding Miller, inspired by the celebrated verse: "When you are old and grey and full of sleep,/ And nodding by the fire, take down this book,/ And slowly read, and dream of the soft look/ Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep".
The selling exhibition (first come, first served) features some 300 works with prices starting at about €200.
It is sponsored by Whyte's auctioneers and supported by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Arts Office, and is open to the public, admission free, from Monday until Sunday, April 26th, from 10am-5pm daily.
