March 24th-26th Mealy's three-day Spring Sale, 65 per cent of lots sold. An 18th century "man-bag" (a Georgian gentleman's silk net purse) with a Lissadell provenance €360 (€250- €350). See mealys.ie.

Saturday (March 28th) Whyte's auction of sale of Rock, Pop & Movies memorabilia. A "learner's guitar" owned in the 1970s by Dublin schoolboy David Evans, now The Edge of U2, sold for €21,000, over four times the top estimate (€3,000- €5,000) to a telephone bidder in Hollywood.

Tuesday (March 31st) Bonhams, Edinburgh. Sale of paintings by the Scottish artist Jack Vettriano: Waltzers £236,500 (£200,000- £300,000) or €323,265 (€273,356-€410,018).
