Connecticut estate is a snip at $190m

Most expensive property in the US put on the market

This is the most expensive family home in the US. Copper Beech Farm in Greenwich, Connecticut, went on sale this week through David Ogilvy and Christie’s International with a staggering $190 (€147) million price tag.

Built in the late 1880s, the 53-acre estate has a mile of water frontage on to Long Island Sound.

And if you're wondering about the neighbourhood, the estate is next to the exclusive gated community of Mead Point and Indian Field Road, where property developer Sean Dunne and his wife, Gayle Killilea, have rented their home.

This area of Connecticut, about a 45-minute drive from New York city, is one of the wealthiest communities on the US east coast.

The main house is a 12-bedroom 1,207sq m (13,000sq ft) French-Renaissance-style mansion with gardens and grounds extending over two islands.

The Lauder Greenway family, co-founders of US Steel with Andrew Carnegie, moved into the house in 1904. The current owners bought the estate in the 1980s and have since used it as a weekend retreat.
