EUROVEA, THE mixed-use centre in Bratislava developed by Ballymore Properties, has scooped this year’s “Best Retail Development” award from MAPIC, the international forum for the retail property sector.
“Rewarding excellence, innovation and creativity has been MAPIC awards’ motto for the past 15 years,” said jury chairman John Strachan. “Eurovea is the worthy winner of this year’s very prestigious award.”
Debt-laden Ballymore’s chairman Seán Mulryan said it was “testimony to our attention to detail in design and experience built up over the last 30 years. Awards given by your peers from across the world is the true measure of your ranking in terms of the best property developers in the world.”
Eurovea, left, will bring a total of 400,000sq m (4.3 million sq ft) of retail, office and residential accommodation to the edge of the historic centre of Slovakia’s capital. With a new public park and riverside park on the Danube, the first phase of the scheme is up and running.
Designed by Murray O’Laoire (now in liquidation), it was taken over by Dublin-based Ciarán Ferrie Architects and comprises 55,000sq m (590,529sq ft) of retail, leisure and entertainment; 23,000sq m (246,948sq ft) of office space, a five-star hotel, 250 riverside apartments and 1,700 underground parking spaces.
