Fortfield Park in Terenure is a wide, leafy road lined on both sides by solid bay-fronted semi-detached houses built in the late 1930s. Number 2, a four-bedroom family home, goes to auction on July 5th through Sherry FitzGerald with a guide price of £600,000.

The house comes to the market in good condition and with most of its period features intact. The windows, however, have been replaced with PVC ones, albeit with the original coloured, leaded-glass insets.

The hall door is sheltered from the elements by a glazed porch, a later addition. Inside, a sizeable square entrance hall gives an immediate feeling of space. On the left-hand side are the bay-windowed drawing room and the diningroom, a pleasant pair of rooms connected by wide doors that slide smoothly into the wall-cavity. Both rooms have high and narrow, art deco-style, hardwood mantels, and polished pine floorboards. French windows in the diningroom lead into a big conservatory with an elaborately tiled floor. This, in turn, leads into both the garden and the kitchen.

The kitchen, which may also be entered from a door down the hall, is a large room with terracotta flooring and granite-topped timber units. A row of windows over the sink has a nice view of the back garden.

A cosy family room adjoins the kitchen. Both rooms are part of a well-built extension that successfully matches the style of the house. A utility room and lavatory are also on this level and the garage has been converted into a playroom.

Upstairs, there are four bedrooms, two doubles and two singles. Three have built-in wardrobes, while the main bedroom has a bay window overlooking the road.

The big family bathroom has a roll-top bath and a separate shower stall. There is another shower room at the end of the hall.

The front garden has parking space for two cars, and has raised beds filled with plants. The back garden, meanwhile, is 90 ft long by 60 ft wide. It is mainly in grass, with some borders and beds of conifers and other easily-maintained shrubs. A mature apple tree spreads its branches over the lawn, a tree house nestles in the corner, and the whole lot may be illuminated at night by outdoor lighting.
