Tried And Tested: Top five favourite winter skin savers

Plus a rejuvenating cleansing treatment, an eye cream and a rather expensive humidifier

Decleor Neroli essential night balm €45

Oh sweet joy. The very first time I used this balm I woke in the morning with such soft, moisturised skin. It's solid in the jar so scrape a little out and sort of mush it (a highly technical term) in your hand until it becomes softer and warmer. Or else you could do what my mother and Marilyn Monroe did and use Vaseline.

Sisley Supremÿa Baume €475

I’m not going to apologise for my love of this cream. It’s wildly expensive yes, but it’s also utterly fantastic. A tiny bit goes a long, long way. During the dark winter days I don’t use any SPF unless it’s in my foundation. Two minutes of watery sunshine a day isn’t going to do any harm, but exposure to the elements and radiators will. So I use night cream and the richer the better. It seals in skin’s natural moisture. If you use a hyaluronic serum underneath you trap even more moisture.

Elave Rejuvenating Cleansing Treatment €26.95

There is no point in slathering your face with creams, oils and serums if you haven’t exfoliated properly. The moisture and active ingredients will sit on top of dead skin and won’t benefit the fresh new skin underneath. The quickest way to sweep all of this away, is with a decent glycolic cleanser like this one.

Ren Keep Young and Beautiful instant brightening beauty shot eye lift €35

I don’t normally rate eyecreams and I rarely use them. However as soon as I used this treatment I thought, golly gosh this stuff actually works. (Those weren’t my actual words). I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now and since the very first day it improved the dreaded crows feet and and firmed everything up. Buy this. It does what it says it will, it works and I don’t think I will ever be without it..

Dyson Humidifier €699.98

When Dyson said they had something they would like me to try, I thought they’d mixed me up with someone who likes hoovering. However they sent me a humidifier. It has revolutionised my habit of leaving bowls of water under the radiator in a futile attempt to keep moisture in the air. Futile, as my four enormous cats made their life’s work to drink that water as quickly as possible. The Dyson Humidifier has worked a treat. It’s neat, portable and it is a excellent skin care tool. Who knew?
