Two women - a cyclist and a pedestrian - were killed in separate road traffic incidents in Clare and Monaghan at the weekend.
The latest fatality occurred on Sunday when a woman in her 80s was struck by a vehicle close to her home at Knockaveen near Scarriff in east Clare shortly before 9am.
The roadway that passes the area where the incident took place was closed pending completion of a technical examination by Garda forensic collision investigators.
The woman’s body has been removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination will be carried out later. A Garda family liaison officer has been appointed to provide support to her family.

Gardaí in Scarriff are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.
Meanwhile, a cyclist who lost her life in a crash in Monaghan on Saturday has been named as Jenny Drew (74), from Beaghkearns in the town.
She was killed when her bicycle and a car collided on Cootehill Road, close to Monaghan town at approximately 1.20pm.
She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body has been removed to Monaghan Hospital where a postmortem was due to take place on Sunday.
Locals described Ms Drew as an “absolute lady and an exceptionally kind person”. She had been involved in a Meals on Wheels service in Monaghan town for a number of years helping the elderly and vulnerable in the town. She was a regular cyclist and was also involved in the yoga club in the town.
“She always looked so content and happy on her bicycle, I will miss her cheerful smile as she passed by up & down our road,” one local remarked.
Ms Drew is survived by her husband Matt, her daughter Karen, son Barry, son-in-law Anthony, her sister Mary.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them, including any road users who may have camera footage, including dashcam.
