Patients and staff were forced to evacuate the Mater Private hospital in Dublin on Friday morning after a fire alarm was activated at the facility.
The hospital said those in the building exited onto Eccles Street after the alarm sounded, in accordance with protocols, and returned a short time later when it was established that no fire had broken out.
The incident last about 45 minutes, according to one observer.
A number of tenders from Dublin Fire Brigade attended the incident.

Services in the hospital were running as normal again, a spokeswoman told The Irish Times.
“Earlier this morning a fire alarm was activated at our premises in Eccles St. In accordance with our safety protocols, we conducted a precautionary fire evacuation of the area affected,” she said. “We can confirm that there was no fire, and the incident is under control. All patients and staff have returned to the hospital building and all services are operating as normal.”
The Mater is part of the Mater Private Network, which includes hospitals in Dublin and Cork and has been owned by InfraVia Capital Partners since 2018. The Dublin hospital has 210 beds and offers service from over 200 consultants.
