Jim O’Driscoll’s death last year was a great loss to contemporary Irish art. He was passionate about art and was a tirelessly committed collector for more than four decades. He also remained true to his Cork roots and, in recognition of this, the new West Cork Arts Centre is going to name it’s main gallery the Jim O’Driscoll Gallery.
With just €250,000 of the €3-million-plus budget for the new centre still outstanding, an art auction has been organised. Sixty leading Irish artists have donated, including Patrick Scott, Basil Blackshaw, Barrie Cooke, Hughie O’Donoghue, Martin Gale, Bert Irvin, Brian Bourke, Gwen O’Dowd, Mary Lohan, Charles Tyrrell, Charles Harper, Donald Teskey (Farmhouse – Litchfield CT, Oil on paper, 2007, above) and too many others to mention.
You can view the work at the West Cork Arts Centre until August 10th (10am-5pm).
