Like GusGus, Berlin-based To Rococo Rot are long-term players in the electronic music game. Instrument, the eighth album of bespoke sounds from the Lippock brothers and Stefan Schneider, is a fine addition to a catalogue which goes back to the shapeshifting likes of Music Is a Hungry Ghost and The Amateur View, all touched by the tones of Krautrock, post-rock and arty electronica. The trio are aided here by Arto Lindsay, pioneering no-wave guitarist and DNA kingpin, who adds his soft, balmy vocals to a few tracks, a first for a To Rococo Rot release. Lindsay is very much to the fore on the lovely movements of Classify, Many Descriptions and the darker Longest Escalator in the World. And when he steps away from the microphone, the band are more than capable of hitting a high gear, as Gitter and Pro Model show. cityslang.com Download: Classify, Pro Model
