The Gloaming last night won the Meteor Choice Music Prize for best Irish album of 2014 with their eponymous record The Gloaming.

The judging panel, made up of Irish music media professionals, “deliberated at length” before choosing the winning album.

The Gloaming, a contemporary-traditional group made up of Martin Hayes, Iarla Ó Lionáird, Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh, Dennis Cahill and Thomas Bartlett, is on tour in Australia.

The winner of the Irish Song of the Year was also announced, with The Script claiming the prize for their song Superheroes.
