An Irish musician will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest guitar-playing session next month.
Dubliner Dave Browne will begin strumming at The Temple Bar pub on June 12th at 4pm, and is scheduled to play until 9pm on June 16th, totalling more than 101 consecutive hours of guitar-playing without sleep.
Browne said he had been planning to beat the record for years, but has only managed to play non-stop for three days to date. He will be joined on stage by other musicians at various intervals and has been reportedly undergoing fitness training in a bid to keep “physically and mentally fit” for the attempt.
“Playing guitar comes really naturally to me but, I have to say, staying awake is going to be the biggest challenge, ” he said. “I am approaching it like a marathon for my mind, and I am already beginning to train for it. For me, having everyone around keeping me motivated and alert will really help, so having the support on stage is really important.”
