Pop Corner: Bieber chills, Chvrches takes it to the trolls, Gaga in a horror story

Plus, Pop Corner’s top picks for Electric Picnic 2015

Track of the week: What Do You Mean? by Justin Bieber

With a chorus that's begging to be turned into a Vine meme (could we suggest shrieking goats?), a new Bieber opus is bestowed upon us. Jokes aside: in previous years we would have called this track "blog friendly", but overall WDYM is pretty chill. 7/10

Hero of the week: Lauren Mayberry from Chvrches battled online trolls on Channel Four news. Speaking about the online reaction to Chvrches' latest video, she said: "If you don't like it, that's fine, but there is a difference between criticism and hatred." She went on, "this happens to women all the time anyway, and I hate the idea that young girls who follow our band deal with stuff like that. I don't want them to feel isolated, I don't want them to feel like it is just happening to them, because it happens everywhere." Good woman.

Lady Gaga update: Gaga's role in American Horror Story: Hotel has been announced. She will play the owner of the Hotel Cortez, called Elizabeth (The Countess). The show's co-creator, Ryan Murphy, described the character as a "very wealthy social doyenne who is consumed with art, fashion and people". Can't wait!

Hang on! We’re taking a bit of a left turn this week. Heading to the Picnic this weekend? Here are three acts you must catch at all costs.

1. Roisin Murphy: The grand dame of the Picnic, Ms Murphy could turn even a portaloo into the hippest club with a 30- minute wait at the door. Bone up on her new record, but also hope for some Moloko throwbacks, and our fave, Dear Miami.

2. Shamir: Sure, you've heard the singles (and we're sure that On the Regular will cause entire campsites to burst into dance), but check out more thoughtful album tracks such as Demon before losing it to Hot Mess.

3. Chrvches: A firm pop corner fave, this Scottish trio have punched up their sound and are stadium ready. New track Never Ending Circles was made to be bellowed with vigour, and we dare you to try and sing along to the synths in Gun.
