Lou Rhodes follows a folkie star when she’s not providing vocal substance to Lamb’s electronic beats.

At first it seems that her fourth solo album is working to a familiar arc, as the sweet voice chimes and coos its way through some cliched hippie subject matter.

But it’s the charged nature of the music that really commands the setting.

Co-producers Simon Byrt and Rhodes coat the strings and keyboards with ghostly, spooked, other-worldly ambience and atmospherics.

It makes for a much different and much more charged listen, with Rhodes’s voice working magic in creating psych-rich, twisted, wonky tales throughout.

All the Birds and Them are good snapshots of Rhodes’ refreshed approach, while a cover of The xx’s Angels turns its original urban minimalism into a lovely pastoral hymn.
