MUSIC NEWS:Dublin-based guitarist John Lambert – the man behind the Chequerboard pseudonym – is the latest musician to sign up to the FundIt website to raise money for his new album.

Lambert's last release was 2008's critically-acclaimed Penny Black, which was recorded during a six-month music fellowship residency at Sligo's Model Arts Centre. He hopes to follow it up in 2012 with The Unfolding, his third full-length record.

“A close friend gave me a minute to come up with one good reason not to do it, and I couldn’t – so I agreed, given that money and wind in my sails were the only things lacking in bringing the album to fruition,” he said. He is also producing one-off art montages as rewards for funders, which can be seen at lambertboard.tumblr.com.

Recently Julie Feeney and Nina Hynes raised money for their forthcoming albums via FundIt. tinyurl.com/chequerboard
