Pipeworks
Crosshaven, Dundalk, Tullamore, Dublin, Fri-Sat 25th 01-8721122
Simon Rattle made his Dublin debut three years ago with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. This Monday he’s back at the NCH, this time with the period-instruments players of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. The programme is an all-classical affair, two Haydn symphonies (Nos 64 and 95) framing Mozart’s Concerto for two pianos, with the dynamic duo of Katia and Marielle Labèque as soloists.
Ireland’s biggest celebration of the king of instruments, the organ, is spreading itself far and wide this year. Pipeworks festival events – and the associated organ-playing competition – take place on the Henk van Eeken organ in Holy Trinity Church, Crosshaven, in the Green Church and St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dundalk, in the Church of the Assumption, Tullamore and in various churches around Dublin.
Members of the competition jury (David Higgs, Jon Laukvik, Jacques van Oortmerssen and David Titterington) all perform during the festival and give master classes.
