Commentators and music fans alike have spoken recently of the traditional music festival model needing to change and progress. Well, the Gateway Festival is certainly taking a step in that direction. Set in beautiful Glendalough, Co Wicklow, today and tomorrow, Gateway is a music and arts event that boasts an impressive array of some 60 live bands and DJs. God Is an Astronaut, Kíla, Patrick Kelleher, The Hot Sprockets, Planet Parade, Kormac, Zealots, New Secret Weapon and Skuzzi Port are among the diverse spread.

The festival hasn’t received much publicity in recent months, mostly relying on word of mouth to generate interest. Organisers have also come up with a novel way for punters to pay their entrance fees: if you wish to attend, you need to print off an “invitation” from eventelephant.com/ gatewaysfestival, although there is a compulsory €30 donation at the gate.

As well as the music, there will be art installations, chill-out and hot-tub areas, free parking and a multitude of food stalls. Patrons are also invited to bring their own beverages.
