It’s a good year for fans of Haydn. Peter Tuite (left) gives the second recital in the Hugh Lane Gallery’s traversal of the composer’s complete keyboard sonatas, a task he’s sharing in a two- year project with Fionnuala Moynihan. (The Orchestra of St Cecilia and Proinnsías
Ó Duinn will continue their survey of the composer’s complete symphonies, with this year’s six concerts at Newman University Church beginning on April 15th.)
On Thursday, the Vienna Mozart Trio, who are regular visitors to Ireland, are back in Waterford for a programme of Mozart (the Trio in C, K548), Beethoven (the Ghost Trio) and Smetana (the Trio in G minor, a pained response to the death of a young daughter).
And just in case you haven’t heard, the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra’s three-concert tour to Galway, Limerick and Cork, due to start with Barry Douglas on Thursday, has fallen victim to cutbacks in RTÉ and has been cancelled.
