The Dublin-based music collective Popical Island will launch its second compilation album with a free all-day gig (starting 2.30pm) upstairs in Whelan’s on Saturday, June 25th.

The line-up includes Squarehead, Land Lovers, Yeh Deadlies, We Are Losers, Groom, Hello Moon and Tieranniesaur.

The 18-track compilation features established members of the collective, as well as new names such as Goodly Thousands and Rhino Magic and established acts that have joined the fold, such as Michael Knight.

Popical Island #1was released last year and was praised for its diversity and its handmade CD artwork. The follow-up will also be individually painted and stamped, and there will be a series of collectible badges with download codes on sale.

“Our Popicalia club has helped to generate a buzz, and has also contributed in a small way to running costs and various overheads, such as pressing CDs and so on, but in general we run things on a shoestring,” said co-founder Michael Stevens, who also plays in Groom. “It is exciting to be a part of something that people cherish and take to heart.”
