MUSIC NEWS:The first Other Voices event to be held outside Ireland took place last weekend in New York and was deemed a resounding success. The reason for its temporary transatlantic relocation was to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Other Voices format.

Glen Hansard, Thomas Bartlett and series producer Phillip King curated the bill, which included Irish and American artists. Among them were Martha Wainwright, Bryce and Aaron Dessner of The National, Jape, Bell X1 and Laurie Anderson, whose husband Lou Reed showed up to watch her set from the wings. Literary fodder was provided by guests such as Gabriel Byrne, Paul Muldoon and Roddy Doyle. Proceeds from the gigs will go to Doyle's Fighting Words centre in Dublin and the shows will be broadcast on TV before Christmas.

The series will return to its usual home in Dingle in early December.
