We Are the Lilies V2/Co-Operative***

Essentially a duo backed by a band called The Palmtree Family, The Lilies seems almost too simple to be true, especially considering their elaborate brand of wonky psychedelic pop. French musician Tahiti

Boy contacted Os Mutantes frontman Sergio Dias about a collaboration. The result is We Are the Lilies, which evokes Wings-era McCartney, Phoenix and the Tropicalia movement. Throw in contributions from Iggy Pop (the rollicking Why?) and Jane Birkin (whose dulcet tones ignite tender piano ballad Marie) and you've got an album that's as odd as that melting

pot might suggest. Yet with gorgeous multi-part harmonies, some high-energy rock’n’roll stomps and bucketloads of dazzling personality, it blooms into something strangely beautiful – after several listens. See myspace.com/wearethe lilies
