One Atom That Was YouCollapsed Adult Records ****
Since the release of their promising debut three years ago, Carlow’s Chris and Laura Coffey have broadened their musical horizons to include a six-piece live band. Although the siblings remain the nucleus of The Holy Roman Army in the studio, their sonic expansion has paid dividends on their second album. Their electronic core is retained, with songs underpinned by Chris’s sluggish, half- murmured lyrics often parting like clouds for Laura’s nimble croon to break through.
Yet there's a cinematic feel to Rope and a melancholic Twin Peaks- esque quiver to Upward Only, while the subtly jagged rip of Solutions tempers the deft glitches with a hearty dose of grime and fuzz. A spacious record that takes time to engage, but one that's all the more rewarding for it. theholyromanarmy.com
