Lonesome Dreams Play it again Sam****
Meet Lord Huron. If you're already familiar with the music of Fleet Foxes, Grizzly Bear and My Morning Jacket, Ben Schneider will seem like an old friend. The Michiganite's debut album is saturated with the same close harmonies and reverb-laden choruses as those bands' work but in addition to the tumbling drumrolls and Morricone-style rumbles of guitar, there is an extra, unique quality to these songs. Schneider and his bandmates weave a dreamy course between the shy swagger of folk and alt-country tunes (She Lit a Fire) and the celebratory, gamelan-led pop grooves of The Man Who Lives Forever and Time to Run. There's no doubt about Lord Huron's influences, but their distinctive spin on a ransacked genre makes this album stand out from the multitude of inferior copyists.
