Make all the jokes about drummers you like - Andy Burrows won't care. The former Razorlight tubthumper has not only moved on from playing second fiddle to Johnny Borrell's ego, but he plays every instrument on his second solo album.

1970s pop is an obvious reference point; smatterings of Todd Rundgren, The Eagles and ELO abound here. Despite that, there's a surprising lack of MOR dreariness, mostly thanks to the Badly Drawn Boy-esque modern twists applied to such songs as So Long Ago and

Green Grass

, with their eccentric key changes, quirky rhythms and melodic, harmony-filled choruses. Perhaps 14 tracks is a little overbearing, as the initial momentum eventually trails off. But there are several irresistible numbers along the way, and perhaps a lot to look forward to from Burrows in the future.
