Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Present…

Dark Night of the Soul EMI ****

Dark Night of the SoulEMI ****

It has taken over a year for this very fine album to be officially released. Whatever palaver there was over its original scheduled outing (EMI, apparently, had problems with distribution; Danger Mouse, aka Brian Burton, had issues with the album being released without accompanying visuals from director David Lynch) has been resolved, and what we now have is quite unlike anything else Danger Mouse has previously put his hand to. Burton, with his (now sadly deceased) collaborator Mark Linkous (aka Sparklehorse) has gathered together a bunch of associates to create a sterling alt.strange album. Highlights include Burton/Linkous songs delivered with threat and promise by the likes of Flaming Lips, Julian Casablancas, Iggy Pop, Vic Chesnutt (also RIP), and Suzanne Vega.
