Love them or hate them, you can't deny that Mullingar's The Blizzards knew their way around a pop song. That was largely down to frontman and chief songwriter Niall "Bressie" Breslin, who has since decamped to London to pursue a solo career while simultaneously co-writing tunes for pop's latest sensations. Colourblind Stereomay exhibit his newfound technical skills, but there's little charm to these songs, which seem glazed with a factory-line synth slickness instead of focusing on melody and songcraft. Several songs are littered with references to Bressie's new life, although his lyrics often come across as platitudinous ( Last Tube Home), and there's an emptiness about the clubby choruses of Wall of Soundand Can't Stay Young Foreverthat isn't satiated with slick effects. Technically adequate, but Breslin is capable of better. See bressiemusic.com
