Masked metallers Slipknot to kick-off European tour in Dublin

Slipknot have announced they will play the 3Arena in January, the first date on their European tour. The band will release their much anticipated new album The Gray Chapter on Friday in Ireland. The album is named after bass player and one of the band's leading song writers Paul Gray, who died from a drugs overdose in May 2010. It is their fifth album.

Slipknot's reputation as a live band has seen them headline some of Europe's biggest metal festivals including Download and Sonisphere. The nine piece band play with masks and have gone to obsessive lengths to hide the identity of Gray's replacement - although tattoos reveal it is Alessandro 'Vman' Venturella. The identity of their new drummer remains a mystery. They have already released the first song from the album which is entitled Custer.

Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor said their tour of the UK and Ireland was bringing their music back to where “this insanity began” though he appears to have rather hazy idea of geography. “In a lot of ways, it's where this insanity began. So, for this tour, we decided to try and hit as many places as we could - not only England, but Scotland and Wales as well,” he said.

“Technically Ireland is Europe, but we're going there too. We're coming back for the people who started this for us – that would be you. Prepare yourselves. Hell is coming." Slipknot will be supported by fellow nu-metallers Korn.
