APP OF THE WEEK: Hipstamatic Disposable
4 cert, Synthetic Infatuation, iOS ****
What’s better than having a camera app that allows you to take retro-style photos? One that allows you to team up with friends to create a entire album with little or no effort. And even better again, it’s free. The Hisptamatic Disposable is what the company is calling the world’s first social camera. It’s simple to use. You start out with three free “cameras” on the app. Each one has 24 exposures, and you can invite friends to take part in the same roll of exposures through Facebook. Once the roll is finished, the photos are instantly exchanged with those who were invited. You can share the finished album on Facebook or Twitter, or through email. As with Hipstamatic’s regular app, you have some retro effects at your disposal, each assigned to a specific disposable camera. You can’t swap out lenses and films, but you can control the intensity of the effect through a slider on each camera. The free included cameras have unlimited use, but you can buy more, each with different effects. However, these add-ons will be limited to between nine and 99 uses, depending on what you pay. It’s a different way to capture your memories of a particular event – New Year’s Eve, family parties – and share them.
