JUST DANCE 23 cert, Ubisoft, Wii ****
You might never admit to it in public, but games like Just Dance 2are fun. The original was hugely popular, but the sequel is the perfect follow-up. Instead of just adding a heap of new tracks – something they could have done as downloadable content rather than a new game – JD2 adds some new elements, enough to justify buying the follow up.
The basic premise is the same – match the moves on screen to rack up some points, while holding the Wii remote. The more accurate you are, the higher your score.
The graphics are also similar, with brightly coloured models on screen to guide you through about 40 tracks. The music has been designed to appeal to a range of age groups, so you’ll find some Elvis and Ike and Tina classics in among the Ke$ha and Avril Lavigne.
Players can dance in duet mode, or have a dance battle between two players. The party mode, which allows up to eight players, makes it perfect party entertainment too.
Just Dancewas used as a sort of impromptu exercise programme by many; Just Dance 2makes that a little more formal. It has a "Just Sweat" mode, which allows you to pick a set number of songs that you will dance to every day in a bid to get yourself moving.
It’s more accurate at picking up movements than other games of this type, but the controls aren’t precise, and with Move and Kinect now in the mix, it could suffer as a result – you can still get away with a certain amount of general flicking and the game will register it as a precise movement. Overall, JD2 is what you’d expect. It’s fun, it’s fluffy, and you can’t take it too seriously.
