Sick of hearing about Ricky Gervais’s turn at the Golden Globes? Tough. There’s more.

Following the furore that attached itself to Gervais’s digs at movie stars (and the Globes themselves), the organisers appeared to dissociate themselves from the British comic.

“Some of the things he said were totally unacceptable,” Philip Berk, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, whinged. Gervais has, however, claimed that the association, which arranges the event, subsequently invited him back to host the 2012 ceremony.

“The ratings went up again and the organisers asked me to consider a third year,” said Gervais. “I certainly couldn’t get more press for them, that’s for sure.”

There’s more. When Berk heard of Gervais’s claim he hurried to the microphone. “There is no truth to this rumour. We have not asked him to come back,” he said. “Nice try, Ricky.”

If Gervais was trying to further wind up the Globes organisers, it sounds as if he succeeded.
