Ricky Gervais’s reign as cheeky ringmaster at the Golden Globes has ended. It has been announced that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, graduates of Saturday Night Live, will be hosting the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s bash next January.

Gervais was lured back this year after kicking up a few scandals in 2011, but he seemed to have lost a little of his bite. “I’ve told my agent to never let me be persuaded to do it again though,” he later wrote. “It’s like a parachute jump. You can only really enjoy it in retrospect when you realise you didn’t die and it was quite an amazing thing to do.” It’s an important gig. Few insiders take the awards themselves all that seriously. But the television broadcast is usually a hoot.
