THE Cabinet will decide on Tuesday how the report of the Cromien inquiry into the Judge Lynch affair is to be published and presented to the Dail next week.
The chairmen of the inquiry, Mr Sean Cromien and Dr Eddie Molloy, completed their interviews with officials in the Department of Justice last night. They are expected to write their report over the weekend and submit it to the Minister for Justice, Mrs Owen, on Monday.
Both the Taoiseach and Mrs Owen will face another barrage of questions from Fianna Fail and the Progressive Democrats in the Dail on Tuesday, concentrating on the role and involvement of the Attorney General. The Fianna Fail leader, Mr Ahern, is still demanding the publication of his two letters to Mrs Owen, one of which is known to contain legal advices.
The Government has also promised that it will set up the Courts Services board on a non statutory basis this week, removing responsibility for the day today administration of the courts from the Department of Justice.
The judicial review of the cases involving some of the 16 high security prisoners who were released and re arrested will also be heard next week. Notwithstanding their verdicts, however, the political consensus in Leinster House last night was that Mrs Owen's position was secure for the foreseeable future.
