with RTÉ NSO/ALAN BURIBAYEVm NCH, Dublin Fri 8pm €10-€35 01-4170000
The orchestral emphasis in Dublin this week is Russian. The visiting Royal Philharmonic Orchestra play an all-Prokofiev evening on Sunday. But the RTÉ NSO gets in first, on Friday, with the same Prokofiev piano concerto – the Third – that’s on offer from the London orchestra. The RTÉ soloist is Tbilisi-born, Moscow-trained Alexander Toradze, a favourite partner of Valery Gergiev.
On the podium for Toradze's Dublin début is Kazakh conductor Alan Buribayev (currently chief conductor of the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra in Sweden, and the Brabants Philharmonic Orchestra in the Netherlands) and the programme also features Shostakovich's Tenth Symphony as well as his orchestration of Dawn on the Moscow River, the Prelude to Mussorgsky's opera Khovanshchina.
