Win a Gourmet Getaway to Ballymaloe House Hotel in East Cork

F+D: Ballymaloe House Hotel

The Irish Times has teamed up with Ballymaloe House Hotel to offer one lucky Food and Drink Club reader an overnight stay for two people with breakfast and a five-course seasonal, farm-to-fork dinner.

Ballymaloe House Hotel is a luxurious Irish country house hotel in East Cork. A family-owned, retreat with a long-standing sustainable farm-to-fork experience, nestled within 300 acres of farmland.

Over the years, the historic family home has evolved into a luxury country house hotel by maintaining the charm and character of the original house, combined with contemporary comforts. The relaxing pace surrounded by vibrant countryside and authentic Irish hospitality creates a genuine respite from a busy urban life.

The house includes 33 bedrooms and seven dining rooms including the original Yeats Room. Menus are created with farm-to-fork principles, using seasonal produce from the walled garden, the farm, and various local producers, creating a five-course culinary delight concluding with the internationally renowned Dessert Trolley.

Various activities are available for the guests, exploring the estate on foot or on a bike, visits to the walled garden and the farm or seasonal activities such as use of the outdoor heated swimming pool, and a game of croquet. Participating in daily guided tours with a family member or a long-standing team member provides an opportunity to learn about the history, art, biodiversity, and gardening or a trip to the wine cellar.

Ballymaloe House Hotel was established in 1964 by Myrtle Allen and built on a philosophy of farm-to-fork principles. The use of her own farm produce, and choosing the finest, freshest ingredients resulted in a consistent culinary excellence. These together with her unwavering commitment to sustainability, are still the core values at Ballymaloe House Hotel today.
