This week's Web Log column is not fixated on wine. Let's talk about whiskey. The classiest and cleverest way to advertise whiskey has surely got to be Scottish distillery Lagavulin's "Yule Log" YouTube video.

This is 45 minutes of actor Nick Offerman drinking whiskey while a warm fire burns and crackles in the background. There is no dialogue, no flashy set pieces, no gimmicks or special effects.

This is literally three-quarters of an hour’s worth of watching Offerman as he sits in an armchair, watching the viewer and sipping slowing. Fans of the actor will love this; it’s classic Offerman. His television roles and stand-up comedy reflect his own life as an outdoorsy guy with a love of woodworking, steak and a decent whiskey. If only all advertising were like this. If nothing else, you can put this on full screen for a virtual festive fireplace.
