Up to 100 jobs are to be created in Galway over the next three years by the technology company Intuity, while a further 60 roles have been announced by two firms in Cork.

Intuity said it is to open a new office shortly as part of an expansion plan that includes possible strategic acquisitions and a move into export markets.

The company, which was formed following a merger between IT support firm TecSupport and the software solutions provider Ice Cube in late 2014, said recruitment for a range of roles is to commence immediately.

"We are looking forward to a busy 2016, with a number of strategic acquisitions already identified, key international partners in place and the addition of a third office here in Ireland planned for the coming months," said Intuity chief executive Gerard Cox.

Separately, Hortonworks, a California-headquartered company that develops, distributes and supports HDP, the completely open-source Apache Hadoop data platform, is to create 50 jobs in Cork with the opening of new premises in the city.

The announcement is supported by the Government through IDA Ireland.

Founded in 2012, the company was the firs Hadoop distributor to file for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) when it floated in late 2014.

“Our presence in Ireland is yet another step towards making Enterprise Hadoop as widely available as possible,” said Andy Leaver, Vice President of International Operations, Hortonworks.

Still in Cork, Fortuity, a firm that provides IT support services, is to create 10 new roles at its office in Carrigtwohill.

The company, which was formerly known as Avalon Technologies, said the deciion to add jobs was as a result of a rise in demand for cloud, data analytics and security solutions.
