ONE MORE THING:CAROL BARTZ'S dismissal from veteran web company Yahoo this week won't feature in any human resources training handbooks.
Bartz, who joined Yahoo in January 2009 with a CV that included stints as a director of Cisco, Intel, BEA Systems, was hired to turn the faltering web giant around. But when the board lost patience with her efforts chairman Roy Bostock simply picked up the phone and dismissed her.
As you’d expect of any self-respecting Silicon Valley executive, Bartz had her iPad to hand and dashed off the following e-mail to all staff: “To all, I am very sad to tell you that I’ve just been fired over the phone by Yahoo’s chairman of the board. It has been my pleasure to work with all of you and I wish you only the best going forward. Carol.”
Sympathy didn’t extend to the market – Yahoo shares are up almost 10 per cent since Tuesday.
