ONE MORE THING:THE CHELLO Foundation, an Irish charity that supports Aids orphans in sub-Saharan Africa, has chosen Shane O'Neill to receive its humanitarian achievement award this year.
O’Neill will get the gong when Chello hosts its third gala fundraising ball in Ireland at Dublin’s Mansion House on October 21st.
Dubliner O’Neill is the chief strategy officer of Liberty Global, the Colorado-based listed company that owns cable TV and telecoms provider UPC Ireland.
He helped to create the foundation in 2007 and has been a driving force behind it ever since.
To date, it has raised about €250,000 for the orphans.
By the end of this year, the foundation will have helped to educate more than 5,000 children in the region.
Chellomedia is an arm of Liberty Global that invests in European television and lends its name to the charity.
Last year’s award went to Denis O’Brien, while Peter Sutherland got the honour in 2009.
