THE GAMBLING regulator on the Channel Island of Alderney yesterday suspended licences held by online group, Full Tilt Poker, which employs about 700 people in the Republic, as a result of an investigation in the US.

The head of Alderney’s Gambling Control Commission, Andre Wilsenach, said that the regulator has suspended online licences held by a number of limited companies, Vantage, Oxalic, Filco, and Orinic, which operate collectively as Full Tilt Poker.

A commission statement said the suspension followed an inquiry by the US attorney general’s office in New York’s southern district, sparked by an indictment dating back to April 15th.

The US investigations centres on allegations of money laundering, bank fraud and illegal gambling.

Mr Wilsenach said that the decision to suspend the e-gambling licence was in the public interest.

The issue will be the subject of a regulatory hearing in London on July 26th. A Dublin-based Full Tilt operation, Pocket Kings, employs about 700 people in software development and other services.
