A COMPANY that designs and fits Irish pubs around the world is seeking a meeting with its creditors, normally an indication that a business is planning a liquidation or a similar process.

The Irish Pub Company has called a creditors meeting for Friday, November 6th, in Dublin.

Companies generally call a creditors meeting when they are intending to go into liquidation.

The company advertised the meeting recently in a national newspaper.

One of its directors, Denis McCague, refused to discuss the reasons for calling the meeting when contacted yesterday. Efforts to reach the other three – Frances O’Shaughnessy, Anita Doyle and Mel McNally – were not successful.

Ms Doyle, Mr McNally and Kieran McGill are shareholders of both The Irish Pub Company and McNally Design, a connected business.

Its returns show that State body Forbairt was also a shareholder in The Irish Pub Company. State development agencies sometimes take stakes in businesses in return for financial support.

The Irish Pub Company specialises in designing and fitting out Irish-themed pubs. The company is focused on architecture, design, consultancy and branding.

Earlier in the decade demand for Irish pubs in centres around the world boomed.

The brands with which it is associated include Tigín, Fadó and O’Neill’s.

The Irish Pub Company’s accounts show that in the 12 months that ended March 2007, the last period for which figures are available, the company had net assets of €720,000.
