More than 300 start-up events are being planned across Dublin, Waterford, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford as part of a new national start-up week this October.

The Startup Gathering, from October 5th to 10th, aims to promote entrepreneurship and showcase Ireland’s start-up sector to global entrepreneurs, investors and R&D teams.

Participants will have an opportunity to showcase their start-ups, discover the supports available, and take part in networking opportunities.

Among the events planned is a current trends and future insights conference in Dublin’s Marker Hotel. Multinationals from the internet, enterprise software and the “internet of things” sectors will deliver insights into their industries.

An export-awareness workshop will take place in the The Mall in Waterford. A funding and innovative supports seminar for start-ups and SMEs is planned for the Shannon Applied Biotechnology Centre in Co Limerick.

Start-up Ireland co-founder Eoin Costello said Ireland doesn't have time for a gradual evolution of its start-up industry: "The increasing rate of change brought about by technology requires a 'start-up revolution' if Ireland is to continue to be a high-growth economy . . ."

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton said start-ups create two-thirds of all new jobs.
