The European Parliament and the European Commission is on the lookout for a "future" office in the centre of Dublin.
An advertising campaign is to be launched next week to find suitable offices in the city centre when its lease of the current premises on Dawson Street runs out in April, 2015.
Office requirement
Brussels is looking for between 1,500 and 2,000sq m (16,145 to 21,527sq ft) of space on a ten year lease with a break option after five years.
The premises will need to have high visability and easy access in the “political centre of Dublin” and have car parking facilities in the building or in close proximity.
Property owners and estate agents are to be asked to submit details including lease terms to the European Union House by November 21st.
Surprise move
Notwithstanding the campaign to find "future" offices, it will be a major surprise if the European institutions leave their present offices because of the convenient location between Leinster House and the city's high streets.
The search for suitable offices is thought to be a standard practice by Brussels once an existing lease runs out.
The present building is owned by the Irish Pension Unit Trust.
