The average price of a room in an Irish hotel last year was €118 per night – up 15 per cent on 2014 – according to the latest Hotels.com Hotel Price Index which is based on prices paid on the popular website.

This is the fifth year average Irish hotel prices have increased, suggesting that the tourism industry is continuing to recover from years of steep decline brought on by the economic crash.

Dublin hotel rates were up 20 per cent to an average of €129 per night while Waterford was Ireland’s most affordable destination at €84 a night.

Room rates in Cork rose 11 per cent to €103 a night and there was an 8 per cent rise in Killarney rates to €119.

Interestingly, room rates in Belfast rose 23 per cent year-on-year to €123 per night while Derry prices were up 16 per cent to €98. “These increases can be in part attributed to the strong performance of sterling against the euro last year,” according to the survey.

The rise in room rates comes against a backdrop of record numbers visiting Ireland: overseas visitor numbers were up 14 per cent in 2015, according to the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation.
