The online edition of Buy and Sell magazine (www.buyandsell.ie) took the overall prize at the 1999 Golden Spider Irish Internet Awards at The Pavilion in Leopardstown Racecourse last night.
The annual awards launched in 1997 by dot.ie Magazine, were sponsored this year by Internet service provider PostGem/IOL. Some of Ireland's leading websites were honoured across 12 categories.
For the best use of technology, Telecom Internet's (Tinet) new homepage feature, the Taxmate (http://taxmate.tinet.ie), was recognised for its "ready reckoner" which assesses individual's tax requirements.
The dot.IE readers award went to Doras, which is also supported by Telecom Internet (http://doras.tinet.ie).
RTE was presented with the information excellence award for its online news presentation (http://www.rte.ie/news), and in the advertising category, ICAN was recognised for its online coverage of the Rose of Tralee.
The award for best use of the Internet by a small to medium enterprise (SME), went to Build Online (http://www.buildonline.com), which offers ordering services to construction industry professionals.
This year's international award went to http://www.jobuniverse.ie, while students from Sutton Park school took the young person's award for their environmental project (http://www.suttonpark.ie/ missionpossible).
Dublin-based, Labyrinth (http:/ /www.labyrinth.ie), received the award for best web design agency, and the best business application of the Internet went to http://www.clickpay.com.
The best community website award was presented to representatives from http://www.sligo.ie, and in the marketing excellence category, http:// www.ireland.travel.ie, took the honours.
