The Town of Monaghan Co-Op has won a tender process to become milk supplier to the discount supermarket chain Aldi.

The contract sees the co-op supplying nine stores in the North East of the country initally. The co-op, which will be supplying milk under Aldi’s Clonbawn brand, already supplies a a number of yogurts to the chain.

Aldi, which has 108 stores in Ireland, said more than 50 per cent of its supplier spend is with Irish companies.

"Our commitment to our customers is that 100 per cent of our Clonbawn fresh milk range sold at our Irish stores is sourced from farms in the Republic of Ireland," said Aldi group buying director Colin Breslin.

“Our business is developing at an exceptional rate in Ireland, and as it continues to grow, there will be more and more opportunities for Irish companies like Town of Monaghan Co-op to work with us,” he added.
