Brady Family Ham maker O’Brien Fine Foods has expanded into Britain through of acquisition Bearfields of London for an undisclosed sum.

Established in 1906, Bearfields is a family-run business with 100 staff and counts both Lidl and Costco as major UK customers

Kildare-based O'Brien Fine Foods employs 500 staff across three plants in Kildare, Meath and Westmeath.

Commenting on the acquisition, managing director John O’Brien said: “In Bearfields of London, we’ve found a strategic partner and a business of real substance that shares many of our strengths and values.”

“This acquisition allows us to enter the UK market with an established and successful business, and we look forward to working to develop the brand and offering through investment in the business and the people,” he said.

The purchase will see an initial investment in a new facility in London, he added.
