This Las Vegas bar features bare stone and salvaged wood from a barn and makes used of the agricultural red used in many farm buildings to create a strong style statement. For barflies who like to worship at the counter of their choice, this bar in Can Tiki, an Ibiza villa, was modified using salvaged pieces from a church hall by Ed Godrich of London-based Godrich Interiors, who reconstructed it from three individual pieces. Several coats of a waxed-finish chalk paint exorcised the dark brown furniture feel while industrial tractor stools add decorative contrast. A flattering antique mirror was hung to the rear of the bar while old framed ad campaigns form a cross shape. This barn conversion is beautifully simple. It features authentic rustic beams and whitewashed stone walls. Underfoot there are broad bare floor boards while painted kitchen units have been customised to create a well-stocked bar with a huge selection of booze on display shelving. This is a very simple bar that will work well in an open-plan home. The bar in this Detroit home has been squeezed into an understairs part of the entrance hall by Barbara S Bell Designs. It is kept out of the hands of prying children (or teenagers) by a locked glass door. Tin tiles line the sloped ceiling while the cabinetry is African mahogany. Make use of every inch of space is the mantra of San Francisco-based Sutro Architects, which installed this bar in the closet of a house in the city. The bar has an integrated sink, perfect for storing ice, and a cool-to- the-touch Cararra marble counter. Below counter, a Sub Zero wine fridge keeps red and white wines at optimal temperatures. London-based David Linley designed this bachelor pad dream bar wall for a private house in Oslo, Norway. The walnut and macassar ebony design incorporates a below-counter bar with fridge, backlit neon framed mirrored shelving for Linley Trafalgar crystal, hand-blown in Cumbria, and barware secreted in a hidden drawer. There is also a cigar humidor, an audio system and desk tidy that can be hidden from view by a rolling tambour. davidlinley.com

10 Mulgoa Street, Brighton, is a 150sq modern luxury house with a classical Parisian architectural influence. Melbourne-based Studio Mint was asked to create a home that was comfortable and practical, with a big emphasis on entertainment. The vodka bar in the billiards room is housed within an orange baize-backed gilt-edge frame with offbeat overhead lighting setting the symmetry of the seating and artwork just off kilter in a good way.
