At the Oculus Connect 5 Keynote last week, Zuckerberg said: "Last year we talked about getting 1 billion people into virtual reality. Let's see how that's going," while pointing to a graph showing only 1 per cent of this goal has been reached, but adding he was "confident Facebook is going to get there".

Since its acquisition of Oculus VR in 2014, Zuckerberg has been hoping the $3 billion investment will pay off, and Facebook has pinned its hopes on the Oculus Quest. Due to ship in spring 2019 for $399, it appears to have a healthy number of VR developers and creators on board, and is set to launch with over 50 games, including popular Rift games Robo Recall and The Climb.

Although the reasonably priced ($199) Oculus Go headset is currently on the market it only offers what is known as three degrees of freedom or 3DoF – the wearer can look around the VR environment but cannot move around within it. The high-end, standalone Quest headset promises 6DoF but untethered from a PC unlike the original Oculus Rift, which requires sensors positioned around the user’s room or gaming space.
