Window dressing:Harvey Nichols unveils new collection in Dundrum
SUCH WAS the demand for invites to the Harvey Nichols spring show in Dundrum yesterday evening that two presentations had to be organised to accommodate some 600 people.
Stylist Paula Hughes assembled more than 100 outfits for the event. “The look is definitely about womanly glamour,” she said as the first lavish floorlength silk dresses by Lanvin swept down the catwalk. Anchored with Perspex corsages, these expensive body-skimming gowns in solid colours such as burnt orange, bright red, midnight blue and ash grey were among the key pieces in a show that mixed the safe with the adventurous.
All of the season’s trends were there, from block-colour dresses and harem pants to boyfriend jackets and metallics, with pink stilettos and clutches ratcheting up the tonal contrasts.
There were dresses to suit every whim, with flirty little Juicy Couture strawberry prints, T-shirt dresses by Sonia Rykiel, kimono shapes by Missoni and summery DKNY halternecks.
Gold fabrics and accessories added a certain polish throughout, the prettiest ensemble being a cream DG shell-silk top and papery gold DKNY skirt teamed with an oversize Jimmy Choo python bag and gladiator sandals.
In among the safe, easy-to-wear silk blouses and trousers were some standout items. These included a cream and black moiré print coat from DKNY, a pretty draped silk skirt from Poleci and a white roll-sleeve wrap dress by Donna Karan.
Suits for city girls, meanwhile, included pinstripe shorts and jackets.
The show ended with an all-black section that featured a glitzy patent-leather jacket by Diesel, a leather petal dress from Poleci, and a demure dress with white Puritan collar from DG.
Prices ranged from €185 for a grey cardigan to €l,770 for a Balenciaga bag.
