Man in 'serious' condition after Ballyfermot shooting

A 32-year-old man sustained serious injuries in a shooting incident in Ballyfermot, west Dublin this morning.

A 32-year-old man sustained serious injuries in a shooting incident in Ballyfermot, west Dublin this morning.

The man was sitting in the driver's seat of a car on the Killeen Road in Ballyfermot just before 9 a.m. this morning when he was approached by two men on a motorbike.

One of them fired several shots which hit the victim in the upper body.

He was later taken to Tallaght Hospital. A Garda spokeswoman said that the man had sustained "serious injuries".

The two men escaped on the motorbike in the direction of Ballyfermot.

The scene of the crime has been preserved for Garda forensic examination.

Forensic officers from the Garda Technical Bureau were also conducting inquiries in the area.

Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses to the crime to contact them.
